Pilgrim Pacer 2010

I have taken quite a little break from racing.  (Of course I use the term ‘racing’ loosely as I mostly just run and finish when I finish.)   But Hubs and I ran the Pilgrim Pacer on Saturday at Unity Village.  We were both suppose to run the 10k but I totally changed to the 5k at the last minute.  ( I’ve been running a little over 3.5 miles pretty regularly with a Jacqui and I knew I could do it…I just didn’t want to.)  I completed the 3.1 miles in 34 minutes which is a little bit faster than I normally run so I felt good about my PR and I’m sure if I had ran the whole 10k I would have ran it quite a bit slower.  Overall, I had a good time and like the idea of doing just one event.

Next weekend is our last race of the year—the Gobbler Grind at Corporate Woods.  I have several friends running the 5k with me so I’m really looking forward to  a fun morning of fitness, friends and lots of laughing.  Afterwards, we are gonna have a celebratory brunch at Hamburger Marys (we are celebrating Laurie receiving her very first finishers medal.  There was an unanticipated lack of medals at her first triathlon and she felt a little cheated…so now she will totally have a medal to show off :)

Then, we done racing til the spring!  Yay!

Today Was A Good Day

Today was a pretty good day!  I don’t have anything worth an entire post but tonight brings a clean house, bike riding bruises, sore legs, happy puppies, fun new apps for my Android, and a quiet night to myself.  Tomorrow I will be back to working out and doing stuff but right now I’m totally being lazy…..

The Rudest Thing I’ve Ever Witnessed

For lunch today I headed over to Panera to practice my ANOVA skills one last time before my big Statistics final this evening.  I think I’m ready but I wanted to give the Factorial ANOVA one more shot as it takes forever and I want to make sure I’m comfortable so I don’t run out of time….

Anyway, I get settled in with my practice sheet and start feverishly calculating the sum of squares when this older gentleman came by; he asked what I was studying for and then sat down.  He was carrying one of those old cd player radios and he positioned it on the table between us and turns on NPR….   Now, I have nothing against NPR.  Sometimes when I’m working and have spent a lot of time in the car I’ll flip to NPR as regular radio tends to rotate the same 40 songs over and over.  Just to chang it up a little….

But today, I couldn’t believe it.  I kept looking at him and looking back trying to focus on the ANOVA at hand.  But every time I would try to refocus–the astonishment of his audacity won out….seriously?  You can just bring a radio into a Panera and listen to whatever you want as loudly as you want with no real consequences.  Everyone sitting around us was staring and annoyed, rolling their eyes waiting for someone to ask him to turn it down!  Turn it down?  I say ear pieces…that is why they make ear phones–so you can listen to whatever crap you wanna to listen to without disturbing the people around you!

Finally, one women asked him to please turn it off and his response:  “This America.  I can listen to whatever I want, when I want!  It’s a free country.”

I finally packed my stuff up and left before my lunch break was over but next time I’ll be sure to play a little Deadmau5 for him and see how he likes it.

I Know What Hubs Is Getting For His Birthday

Since Hubs and I got married the dynamics of our travel relationship have changed a little. On our very first road trip over a year ago he had all his ducks in a row. Packed his own bag, remembered all his own electronics, he was an independent man. But now, Hubs has discovered the joys of a wife carrying a large purse: currently my purse contains all of my normal personal belongings in addition to Hubs’ wallet, phone, netbook, phone/laptop chargers, boarding passes, and earphones. And every 5 minutes he needs something:

Hubs: Can I have my phone?

Hubs: Here’s my phone

Hubs:  Can I have my phone?

Hubs:  Here’s my phone

Hubs:  Do you have the wireless internet card?

Me:  Yes, here.

Hubs:  Oh, I didn’t want it I just wanted to make sure you had it…

Hubs: Do you have my wallet?

Hubs: Will you hand me my netbook?

Hubs: Do you have the netbook charger?

Hubs:  Can I have my phone?

Hubs: Can I charge my phone?

Me: I don’t see why not…

Hubs: You have the charger in your purse

Me: Do you want your earphones for the movie?

Hubs: No I’m going to sleep

Me: Take them…just in case

Hubs: Nope I don’t need them

Me: Ok

Hubs: Is my phone off?

Hubs: Here’s my phone back

Hubs: Can I have my earphones

I know what Hubs’ is getting for his birthday…a purse.

Writing this post I was sitting on the  the plane listening to Hubs complain about ho he’s not paying $6 for tv and his knees hurt from sitting for so long and he’s hungry and he wishes he would have remember to download a movie and why are we on flights with layovers in the first place? Didn’t I know we’re key fob people?

Keep in mind he booked this trip—I think travel arrangements are going to be on MY list from now on….

Reason # 4569 I love being married

Hubs reading the newest US Weekly….

Me:  Wait, are you reading the US weekly

Hubs:  No

Me:  It looks like you are reading US Weekly

Hubs: (Ignoring me)

Me:  You know I paid 4.99 for that US Weekly.  Think of all the money we could save if we subscribed?

Hubs: (Grabbing my laptop)

Me: Really?  Yay!

Hubs:  Yes, I love you!

Because someone must buy puppy food

Today I found millions of these:

I’m sure you came here looking for yet another story about my crazy dogs or taco bell and I realize forcing you to look at a picture of bed bugs might not have been fair  but I figure if I’m forced to put on the rubber gloves and walk into bed bug infested apartments day after day; you could handle a small taste of what my day was like….you’re welcome :)

I’ve Moved…

Ok, my blog as moved over to WordPress….

My New Favorite Thing?

It’s Not You It’s Me

Dear Blogger,

D has officially created a WordPress site for me and it is ridiculous if I do say so myself. You are so much easier to work and there is something to be said for easy (I’ll spread that around for you if you want…) I’m definitely not up to the minimum computer genius requirements of WordPress….

You made me feel so smart. I single handed managed to get my Tweets and Flickr up on your site with only minimal Googling and when I accidentally deleted a posts you were kind enough to save them for me anyway.

The point? I already miss you Blogger. I can’t believe I broke up with you. I. Miss. You. So. Much. Blogging will never be the same….it took me like 10 minutes to figure out how to post this letter.

Depressed and Pining for You,

Jillian

Thursday Letters

Dear Girl that even the teacher hates listening to,

Can you please shut your mouth during class? I’ve talked to several girls in our class and it’s highly likely one of them will attack you the next time you give them a dirty look for not commenting on what you said…..NO ONE CARES/UNDERSTANDS WHAT YOU SAID; THAT’S WHY THEY AREN’T COMMENTING.

Annoyed,

Someone who doesn’t want to have to listen to you ramble on for 3 hours about how someone performed a hate crime on you.

*********************************************

Dear Bikram Yoga,

I love you. Will you marry me? Fiance won’t mine…especially when he sees the positions I can get my body into while sweating off 10lbs in the 110 degrees!

Lovingly yours forever (or at least until my $29 introductory month is over),

Someone who loves touching her toes

PS. I’m not actually touching my toes. I can’t…unless I’m trapped in a room warmed to 110 degrees. But I will the next time I go.

*******************************************

Dear Tiresome Job,

I’m really starting to hate you. I just thought you should know.

Begrudgingly yours,

Someone who would quit if your flexible schedule wasn’t so convenient
